Valmont Delivers a Distinctive Look to Diamond Bar, CA
When the City of Diamond Bar, CA began updating its central intersections in 2013, it wanted to create a distinctive design that would set it apart from the neighboring cities. Because of Valmont’s long-standing reputation as the pole specialist as well as previous successful custom pole projects, partnering with Valmont was a sound decision.
The project architect envisioned a pole that would look like one structure from the bottom to the top. The city had asked us to start with the look of a concrete pole design and to transform it into the design that the city had envisioned. Valmont provided scaled illustrations to the city of the complete assemblies. This allowed the city to see the full scale design of the assembly and also their custom design become a standard design. The city engineers and Valmont worked together to create a unique decorative aluminum clamshell base which would be used on all different pole types and bollards throughout their downtown area. Within 9 months of the city receiving the first drawing, the order was placed for the first intersection. Valmont was then able to create new molds for manufacturing the bases for their 4W Flute Design, and thanks to its abundant resources and capabilities, Valmont was able to do this on time and within budget. Diamond Bar also requested that the poles be galvanized prior to paint per the State of California standard; this would ensure better resistance against corrosion caused by the California environment. As the finishing touch, the city chose a unique “warm gray” top paint color for the poles.
With several custom-shaped and colored traffic signal structures and bollards in place, Diamond Bar now has a unique and more identifiable downtown area. While it always requires significant effort to create new designs and to ensure that all components fit neatly together, Valmont has faced many challenging projects through the years and continues to thrive in delivering custom solutions. We look forward to working with you on your design.
