Highlighting the Natural Beauty of Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park with Decorative Wooden Poles
In September 2022, the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park opened their new Headquarters after years of planning and coordination. The new headquarters, which had previously been located in Hagerstown, MD, is now mere steps away from the National Historical Park in Williamsport, MD. This park encompasses 184.5 miles of the Potomac River which served as a lifeline for communities along the river from 1828-1924. Though no longer in operation, the park boasts hundreds of original structures and the natural scenery of the Potomac River, attracting millions of tourists each year. Ziger/Snead Architects, the designer for the project, needed a lighting solution which would complement both the new headquarters AND the natural, historic beauty surrounding it.
Valmont's Decorative Wooden poles were chosen to not only pay homage to the surrounding forest, but also compliment the modern, new headquarters. Ziger/Snead Architects partnered with our agent, Commercial Lighting Sales, Inc, to design a natural and aesthetically pleasing lighting solution. In the end, our Inari Round Non-Tapered wooden pole paired with the Dart Square Clamshell Base Cover were chosen to light the headquarters and the surrounding area. This design was finalized with a smooth cinnamon finish to the wooden poles. Interested in our decorative wooden pole offerings? Visit our Pole Catalog and choose "Wood" in the material dropdown.
Another factor in the decision was the sustainability of our wooden poles product line. Not only is the material a renewable resource from the Finnish Forest, but Valmont wooden poles are produced in a carbon-neutral factory. Our processes ensure the environmental loads are reduced due to smart material choices, process optimization, LED lighting and efficient heating from air compressors.
